Gentleman's Magazine and Thomas Lediard articles on Georgia history, 1732-1734.

This collection consists of handwritten copies of articles pertaining to Georgia's early history. Many of the articles were originally published in Gentleman's Magazine, 1732-1734. The remaining articles have been attributed to Thomas Lediard and contain numbers which may be page notations for the original source. The articles contain notes from a Trustee's meeting; an account of Sir James Oglethorpe's peace treaty with the Native Americans at Yamacraw; a copy of a letter published in the magazine written by Oglethorpe regarding life in the Georgia colony, it's judicial system, and interactions with Native Americans, particularly Tomochichi; an account of a voyage from Charleston, South Carolina, to Georgia; a report praising Oglethorpe's leadership in Georgia; a report on Fort Argyle; an account of Oglethorpe's return to England; and an article containing the procedures for disposing of property in Georgia when a person dies "without friends." The transcriber is unknown.
